Savage Winter World Premiere Recording

  • American Opera Projects 138 South Oxford Street Brooklyn, NY, 11217 United States (map)

Help AOP and Douglas J. Cuomo fundraise the final $6,000 of a $20,000 budget to finance the release of the World Premiere recording of Savage Winter on Albany Records. To be released on April 10, 2024.

In this fiercely contemporary reimagining of Wilhelm Müller’s poetry cycle Winterreise—most famously set by Schubert— composer Douglas J. Cuomo transforms Müller’s lovelorn winter wanderer into a demon-haunted Everyman desperate for atonement, while electric guitar, trumpet, keyboards, and electronics—infused with acid jazz and a punk energy—narrate his delirious fever dream.

Savage Winter was commissioned and developed by American Opera Projects and Pittsburgh Opera. Savage Winter made its New York premiere at the BAM Fisher on November 7, 2018. It was made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York-State Legislature, Sam Houston State University, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Art Works and many generous Individuals. Savage Winter is published by Schott Music, New York.
