State of the Jews, a new opera by composer Alex Weiser and librettist Ben Kaplan (C&V alums 2017-2019) is a historical drama about Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), the charismatic and controversial Jewish Austro-Hungarian journalist whose writings ignited a mass political movement.
State of the Jews will be featured at the The Streicker Center on January 15 as part of the center’s exhibition on Theodor Herzl.
Originally developed in AOP’s Composers & the Voice training program, State of the Jews is about the iconoclastic scholar and philosopher Herzl in his mission to find a safe haven for the Jewish people.
